Whole Wheat Bread Machine Pizza Dough

Whole Wheat Bread Machine Pizza Dough

You guys, I have a great recipe to share with you today.  Remember this pizza dough?

It just got easier.  Really.

I decided to make it in a bread machine for you.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed this trend lately, but I seem to be having machines do as much cooking for me as I can get them to.  (Like in this slow-cooker recipe, and the pizza recipe I will be sharing tomorrow)  The less time I have to spend in the kitchen, means the less time I have to worry about hearing my daughter scream for my attention.

Speaking of my daughter, she can finally scoot around pretty well and she figured out how to remove the air vents in our floors.  I never thought that I would need to find a way to baby-proof our air vents.

Every day is a new adventure…especially for baby girl.  The other day, I found her scooting to the fireplace so she could pick up the rocks to eat.  We now have a changing table in our living room right in front of the fireplace.  Creative I know…at least it will stop her for a little while.  Thankfully, she hasn’t discovered how to climb on the changing table yet.

I am still getting used to having her get into everything and am having to constantly baby-proof the house. I swear I have no idea how she winds up with some of the stuff she finds!

Back to the pizza.

Did you know that October is National Pizza Month?  (It’s also Pastor Appreciation Month – I love you hubby!)

This is news to me, but I guess we eat enough pizza that every month could be dubbed National Pizza month.  However, in honor of this special holiday, I decided to simplify my pizza dough recipe to the bread machine for you.  If you need some ideas for toppings, stay tuned for a tasty pizza recipe and pizza round-up tomorrow.

Total time:
Serves: 1 large thick crust pizza
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon honey
  • 2 scant teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups white whole wheat flour (I find mine at Trader Joe’s)
  • 1 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons bread machine yeast (or rapid rise)
  1. Heat water to 120°F (or whatever temperature is recommended on your yeast for mixing with dry ingredients) and pour water into bread machine. (I just heat my water in the microwave for a few seconds.) Add olive oil and honey.
  2. Next, add in salt and flours. Make a well on top (like you might for mashed potatoes and gravy) and add in the yeast. Set bread machine to dough cycle. (Mine takes an hour and a half.) Once bread machine is done, dough is ready for rolling out and topping.
-I like the whole wheat content like it is, but if you add less whole wheat flour and more bread flour, the dough will be easier to work with. Personally, I prefer the whole wheat since the taste is the same, even if it does take a bit more effort to roll out.[br]-Also, always bake your pizza at 500°F on a preheated pizza stone, it makes the crust just perfect.
