The Best Chocolate Dessert Ever

I wanted to make a dessert the other night, and I don’t often have everything on hand to whip up most desserts.  So I went through my dessert recipes and remembered that there’s one dessert that I always have the ingredients on hand for…and it is a super and easy and quick recipe!!  My mom’s Chocolate Cake Pudding (not sure where the recipe originally came from).  It is soooo good (and sugary!)!!!  I had it many years for my birthday cake and still request it on my birthday!
It has basic ingredients that you can throw together very quickly and then it takes about 45min to bake.  The pudding will be on the bottom and the cake on the top in the pan. When you cut and serve it, you have to flip it upside down, so the pudding is drizzled all over the top of the cake.  It also is a million times better if served warm, so you should definitely microwave it if it’s cold.

As you can see from the picture, it’s so good that I couldn’t even get a picture before we devoured it! 🙂
Here it is though, with the cake on the top and the pudding on the bottom in the pan…

Without further ado, here is the recipe:

Chocolate Cake Pudding
For the pudding:
3 Tablespoons cocoa
1 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

For the cake(top):
1/2 brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
4 round teaspoons cocoa
1 cup cold water

  1. Sift together dry ingredients for the pudding.  Mix in the the milk and the vanilla.  Batter will be a fairly thick consistency.  Pour in 9×9 baking pan.
  2. Crumble together the sugars and cocoa for the cake in a separate bowl.  Sprinkle over the pudding mixture in the pan. Pour 1 cup of cold water over the top.
  3. Bake at 375° for 45 min (if using a glass pan, turn down temperature to 350° and about 10min less baking time)  Cake is done when toothpick comes out clean (but don’t put the toothpick down too far because there is pudding in the bottom).
